Rather than limit my endless browsing of Kijiji I've decided to make these roundups from time to time. This time, my category was Classic convertibles under $5k. Which of these would you rather have?

I've never tuned a carb, but are they really as easy as a trombone? Because I can tune a trombone in about 30 seconds.

Funnily enough, I'd take the MG. The parts network for those is so vast that spares for them are aplenty. Those old cast iron lumps that MG call an engine aren't too bad either - sure they develop the odd gremlin out of the blue, but they're simple and strong.

Depends on the carb and how fucked it is. Older SU's are pretty easy to tune but some 4 BBL carbs and most weber carbs are pains to tune. And if it's been sitting for years unused you'll likely have to rebuild it.

'72 Alfa for under $5k is the nicest price there, it's got the nice early bumpers and covered headlights

Good point. The problem is that in Canada, driveable classic American convertibles are pretty scarce for that price range. I didn't have a lot to choose from.

The MGB. No doubt. Best year of the "B". Metal dashboard, dual SU's, no emissions.
If the Spica mechanical FI is working and complete on the Alfa, it is not bad either. I have owned a car with that engine and he is LYING about the foolproofness of the Spica FI pump. While it is a mechanical masterpiece, to say it is fidgety is a understatement. Ultra tight tolerances and all kinds weird solenoids and actuators.

I wanted to vote for the Alfa, but the Fiat is by far the best deal. My dad had 2 of these Fiats and this is better shape than both of them.
